In an attempt to aid residents affected by this spring’s flooding, the Township of Muskoka Lakes is offering “free tipping” until this Saturday, June 15, 2013. To access this service, residents are required to obtain a voucher from the Municipal Office. The service is available to residents only, not contractors.
The developers for the Hanna’s Landing property in Port Carling were before the Planning Committee on Tuesday May 21, 2013 with an application to rezone the Glenwood Trailer Park to residential. Staff recommended that the committee approve the rezoning of the property with some provisions as the Official Plan permitted it. Also staff reminded the committee that the proposed development had been approved by the Ontario Municipal Board on two separate occasions. There were delegations from Margaret Walton, planner for the developers, Rick Spence, Friends of Port Carling and Anne McCauley, planner for the MLA. Many questions were posed by the committee to staff and Ms Walton regarding phasing, docking, commercial space, attainable housing units, lot size, number of units, use of open space and “the knoll”, amongst others. Ms Walton emphasized that the developers were in front of the committee to rezone their land and that the above questions/issues/concerns would be further discussed and regulated at the site plan phase. The resolution to circulate the request to rezone the property was not read. The committee felt it was best to defer the application stating it was a large application and that it was “only the first time it has come to council”. Further information was required.
Rogers Communication gave a presentation to Planning asking for permission to circulate a proposal for four cell tower locations in Port Sandfield, Brackenrig, Torrance and Breezy Point. Rogers is seeking permission for these towers to improve their coverage area due to the increase in seasonal population and number of individuals using cell phone instead of land lines. The towers will either be co-located with existing cell towers or on abutting properties. The proposed towers will look like tall pine trees.
According to a discussion that took place around the Heritage Committee Minutes there are approximately 80 properties in the Township of Muskoka Lakes that have been on a list, many of them for several years, awaiting heritage designation. It seems that other properties around the township are receiving designation prior to ones that have been waiting. Although, it was just a starting point and there will be further discussion, the Heritage Committee suggested establishing the boundaries on the Bala Heritage District, while omitting six properties on it periphery that have been awaiting designation.
Committee of the Whole gave approval for Summer Water Sports Inc to hold the 18th year of the Bala Ski Show. The water ski shows will take place at Windsor Park on Tuesday evenings from June 25 to August 27, 2013.
